Abstract

The study relates the producers’ socio-demographic implications to determine the farmers’ characterization and grouping according to the decision tree algorithm model. A sample of 337 individuals was obtained based on social and demographic criteria. The study area was the province of Manabí, which is in Ecuador’s Coastal region. Several groupings were diagrammed, which indicates the similarity that certain variables have on the response variable. The grouping by education has an impact on production and associativity, providing a vision of the conditioning factors and serving as a strategy in the agro-productive diagnosis. In addition, significant differences can be observed between the groups formed in the annual turnover variable and the sowing area. From a microeconomic point of view, the interest of agricultural producers in diversifying their activity and obtaining additional income arises. The agricultural production units are diverse, according to the associative factors studied in Manabí.
