Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the physical characteristics and oil composition of the species E. oleifera, E. guineensis, and their hybrid palm OxG. Five E. oleifera fruits, obtained from the Genealogical Station of the National Institute of Agricultural Research in Pucallpa (INIA), were coded. Length and diameter were determined; moisture, crude protein, and ash content (dry weight) were analyzed. Oil was extracted from the pulp and husk using the Soxhlet method; fatty acid analysis was performed using gas chromatography. Fruit weight ranged from 9.3 g to 10.8 g, and nut weight from 4.5 g to 6.3 g. Pulp and husk concentration ranged from 1.23 g to 2.3 g, and oil concentration from 27% to 65%; protein content ranged from 8.5% to 12.9%, both on a dry weight basis. The fatty acids with the highest concentration in the oil of the evaluated species were oleic (42.8 – 62.8%) and palmitic (28.2- 45.2%).
