MENTAL HEALTH OF THE TEACHING STAFF OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF THE ANDES

Abstract
The mental health condition in the work context of university teachers is a concern due to the social implications and consequences. The objective of this work was to determine the relationship between work characteristics and the mental health of teachers at the Technological University of the Andes. It was a study with a non-experimental, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 108 teachers. Questionnaires were applied to study personal and work characteristics and the Goldberg Health Questionnaire, to assess mental health. SPSS version 25 and Microsoft Excel were extracted for data analysis. 63.9 % of teachers worked 21 hours or more. The Goldberg Health Questionnaire reported that 37 % of teachers presented features of psychopathology; and 48% who worked between 12 and 20 hours expressed suspicion of the disease. There was a relationship between mental health with academic load, employment status and administrative work. It was concluded that the application of the Goldberg Health Questionnaire allowed identifying suspicions of psychopathology, which suggests some mental health problem in teachers.
