Abstract

This study evaluates the technical and economic feasibility of implementing a 10 m³ biodigester as a strategy to reduce operating costs at the Lezem guinea pig farm, located in Chancay, Peru. The analysis focuses on high expenditures related to gas consumption, waste disposal, and maintenance, which together account for 33.04 % of total operating costs. A descriptive quantitative approach was applied using operational data collected over a 12-month period. The results show that the biodigester would generate average monthly savings of S/1,797.80, equivalent to approximately S/21,573.60 per year. Additionally, it is projected to generate a net monthly cash flow of S/2,989.61 by biogas and the sale of biol as an organic fertilizer. The system also improves environmental sustainability by converting organic waste into usable resources. This evidence supports the use of biodigesters as a comprehensive and cost-effective solution for small-scale agricultural systems, contributing to both economic resilience and ecological efficiency in rural production units.
